Connecting The Dots

FUNDAMENTALS OF VISUAL LANGUAGE 1&2

  1. Made Compositions out of various shapes including cubes and circles

  2. Learned to use pencil for shading

  3. Use of dots and lines for construction lines

  4. Visualizing skills to imagine how a form might look

FORM TO FORMATION

  1. Intrusion and Extrusions

  2. Addition and subtraction of form

  3. The concept of depth

ESSENSE OF COLOR AND CULTURE & COMMUNITY

  1. Analysis of the 2D form to make the desired alphabet

  2. Asked "How" to make the specific form

  3. Learning/ reflecting on trial and error

Reflection

This project has made me very confident in drawing circles and lines without the help of any instrument as well as improved my visualizing skills. I could see my line quality improve during these 4 days. During the first day of the project I remember noticing how I have used isometric drawings previously without knowing. For me I just knew it as 3D drawing, which I used a lot during my schooling years. However, I was still confused about perspective drawing and isometric drawing as both of the have a similar grid pattern. Over the course of this project this confusion was cleared. I soon realized that for perspective drawing the number of vanishing points determine the angle from where the object would connect whereas in isometry it followed parallel lines.

Isometric drawing has definitely improved my 3D visualization of alphabet or any object, and how I can represent it on a 2D space. I struggled to explore curved alphabets, mainly with complex alphabets like 'S' and 'Q' however I proceeded with visualizing both the surfaces of the alphabet individually and drawing them without the reference lines interfering. I'm sure that isometric drawing will be extremely useful in my future design learning; for a person interested in fashion design, it will help me visualize the form and draping of the garment on a person.
