THREADS

What fascinates you? Why?

When I think about rain I instantly think about the feeling I get when the first drop of water touches my skin. That gives a piercing and sharp feeling which intrigues me immensely. It is a way to quench the thirst of nature. It takes away the dry yet moist feeling the atmosphere has before rain. Rain also gives me a sense of enjoyment and takes me back to those days when we use to dance in the rain and make paper boats. It an engulfing feeling. Rain can also be both calming and collapsing causing disasters. I sat and wrote down all of my associations with rain before choosing 5. I soon realize that rain in itself is so much more than just water falling from the sky. All of these combined let me to come up with my final list of threads. I decided to add, mix and match several threads from the chosen ones to create my explorations.

PROCESS

Exploration #1

I tried to capture the feeling of wet fabric on skin using tissue paper and chart paper rolled into a cone. I wet the tissue paper to understand as well as demonstrate how an item of clothing looks when drenched in water. It sticks onto the skin creating wrinkles.

Exploration #2

I wanted to capture the moment where it starts to rain and we automatically put our palm out to touch the rain. This touch feel gives me immense joy. I tried to make this through an abstract form where the hand is made out of Flour and the water is depicted through cling wrap

Exploration #3

I wanted to make an exploration using water. After a failed attempt, it soon struck me that water when evaporated freezes into ice crystal therefore it would be exciting to see how painted mixed ice cubes would create on paper. The result of which looked like a storm abstraction.

Exploration #4

I wanted to capture the falling water droplet along with the illusion of 'Lines' it creates due to motion. This was done by burning OHP sheet. While doing this I accidentally made OHP thread which I feel was incredibly fascinating. This thread I used to show the 'Line' illusion of rain.

Exploration #5

I wanted to understand the opaque feel of rain along with another attempt at understanding how wet fabric interacts with skin. I used tracing paper and poured oil on it which gave me an opaque look. Further I put water on it giving it wrinkles. In the process of observing this I captured the drying of the sheet which looked like crystalizing water droplets.

REFLECTIVE NOTE CULMINATION OF IDD 1

During IDD 1 I struggled with what medium to choose to put across my ideas. Apart from that the brief was open ended therefore the room to explore was enough. I had already mapped out how I was planning to move forward with the exploration which helped me. I focused mainly on visual exploration through drawing and doodling to make an idea bank. Moreover, I had put down all my association with my subject, which made the process of choosing threads easier. One thing I think I would keep in mind while indulging in ideation would be to focus on the essence and meaning behind the chosen subject. I do see a purpose in this approach of working. I feel that its a funneling process leading to the final outcome. Through this I feel we have the option to choose from a wide variety of explorations and decide which one is practical or is putting forward our idea, furthermore we have enough explorations to combine and come up with more ideas and outcomes. I believe I've moderately achieving my goals. I do feel that I can work more on it.

KEY FINDINGS

ITERATIVE DESIGN DEVELOPMENT 2

Now that we had to redefine brief specific to our discipline, I thought of first understanding what exactly is Fashion. I listed down everything I think fashion is and asked my friends and family about the same. After pondering over it a bit I realize that Fashion goes so much deeper than just a wrapping around the body or just aesthetics.
