MOODBOARD

I started Phase 2 by attempting to make a mood board where I tried to capture the essence of rain and how I see it through a collection of 6-7 images. Along with the pictures I also tried to make a basic color swatch of rain.

What is Rain?

PROCESS

The natural Phenomenon of precipitation of water droplets from the clouds to the surface due to gravity is called Rain. The process involves evaporation of water in the surface which goes up and condenses to form clouds and when the clouds cannot hold anymore vapor they fall on the surface as particles of water droplets.

I tried to swatch some basic color of rain from my memory. Different shades of blue showing the rain, Shades of grey showing the misty vibe during rain, Shades of brown showing the soil and shades of green for plants and trees.

CLOUDS

Clouds are made up of tiny water droplets called cloud droplets. Groups of cloud droplets form water vapor (gas) or ice crystals.

There are 2 kinds of clouds which are responsible for rain:

1. Nimbostratus Clouds

2. Cumulonimbus Clouds

TYPES OF RAIN

1. Conventional Rain

Convectional rainfall occurs when the energy of the sun heats the surface of the Earth, causing water to evaporate to form water vapor. When the land heats up, it warms the air above it. This causes the air to expand and rise. As the air rises, it cools and condenses.

2.Orographic Rain

Orographic precipitation, rain, snow, or other precipitation produced when moist air is lifted as it moves over a mountain range. As the air rises and cools, orographic clouds form and serve as the source of the precipitation, most of which falls upwind of the mountain ridge.

3. Cyclonic/Frontal Rainfall

This type of rainfall occurs when warm and cold air meets each other. Since warm air is lighter, it rises above the cold air. The rising air is then cooled beyond the saturation point resulting in heavy rainfall. Such rainfall lasts only for few hours.
